Benefits Of Pilates

Many people assume that the main benefit of practicing Pilates is increased flexibility. While you will improve your flexibility through Pilates, it is only a small part of all that Pilates can do for you.

The Benefits of Pilates from The Balanced Life

If you practice Pilates on a regular basis, you can expect to:

  • Improve posture and spinal alignment
  • Reduce back and neck pain
  • Re-train muscle patterns to restore balance
  • Build core strength
  • Increase mobility of joints and restore range of motion
  • Aid in prevention of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis
  • Build long, lean, toned muscles
  • Improve circulation
  • Reduce stress and increase energy
  • Restore balance to the body (and your life)
  • Build confidence and improve self-image

These are just a few of the benefits, but this is by no means a comprehensive list.

So if you’re not doing Pilates yet, you should start. Doing so just may change your life for the better.

What is the best change you’ve experience through practicing Pilates?

I absolutely love Pilates and yoga. They both offer such amazing benefits to my daily life. I love how Pilates has really strengthened and toned my core. I was working out almost everyday and was struggling with getting my stomach to look good. Once I started Pilates, it really shaped up and now I am not embarrassed by it anymore!

This is some great information, and I appreciate your point that Pilates can increase the mobility of your joints. I’ve been having some knee problems, and I’m on the road to recovery, but I’d like to try and accelerate that some. I’ll definitely give Pilates a try to help increase my knee’s mobility. Thanks for the great post!

    Hi Robin-
Just did a search here on osteoarthritis because as I have it in the hips, with especially bad pain on one side. I’ve been religiously following your sisterhood calendar of workouts since Aug. 15 this year and it feels so good — with the exception of my left hip. Do you have any recommendations of specific exercises/stretches that would help my hips? Any specific ones I should avoid?
By the way, I love your workouts and find them to be very motivating!

It’s great to know the benefits of pilates. My wife wants me to try it out, and now I think it’s a good idea. I just love the fact that it can reduce my back pain.
