The Sisterhood FAQ

Hi Beauties,

WOW, the response to the newly-launched Sisterhood has been incredible! I can’t wait to officially get started this weekend.

I’ve received and handful of questions regarding how it all works so this FAQ should clarify what it’s all about if you’re still curious.

If you don’t see your question answered here feel free to leave a comment and I will answer it ASAP.

The Sisterhood FAQ

1. What makes The Sisterhood different than all the other free fitness sites I could join?

Great question. What I believe will make this site different is the quality of the community and the fact that we are all approaching health and fitness with a similar mindset.

By joining The Sisterhood we are saying that we are tired of the old diet/exercise cycle that we easily get trapped in, we’re tired of feeling guilty or trying to be perfect, we’re tired of competing with other women or comparing ourselves to others, we desire authenticity and honest support and we love Pilates. 🙂

Not only that, the fact that we are focusing in on ONE specific theme each month to live a more healthy, balanced life will make this service very unique. We’ll dive deeper and master new skills and habits one step at a time, together, as a community.

If you’re already in the group you know, the community is already off to an amazing start.

2. Why does it cost?

I’ve kept this program SUPER affordable.

I’m charging for this service because it costs money for me to run this type of thing (hosting, email service, filming equipment, continuing education, web design, childcare, etc), I believe in getting paid for my work (I believe you should too), and because I believe in the power of having some “skin in the game”.

As you read in this post, I truly believe you will see better results if you invest some amount of money into the process. Doing so will help you get the most out of the service.

3. I already have access to all the free workouts you post on YouTube so why should I join The Sisterhood?

Another great question. The truth is, you already have access to everything you need to get in shape and get healthy. The internet is FULL of free resources that you can use and I share a lot of them right here on The Balanced Life.

But just because we have access to them doesn’t mean we put them to good use, right? Just think how many things you’ve pinned on Pinterest that you’ve never actually tried or used (I’m guilty!).

The purpose of The Sisterhood is to put a structure and plan in place so that you stay focused, stay committed and feel supported. Being told exactly which workout to do each day and which video to pair it with for best results will take the guess-work out of it for you and make it easier to get down on your mat and just get it done.

The Sisterhood will utilize my free workouts but will also include new, full-length workouts that are only accessible through The Sisterhood. Along with additional resources and tools to keep you excited and motivated each month.

4. What if I join and then change my mind?

If you sign up to pay monthly  you can cancel any time. No questions asked. If you pay for the annual membership up front  you can cancel within 30 days of purchase. I am not here to scam you, I only want you to subscribe if you enjoy it! 🙂

5. What does it look like to have a Balanced Life Sister?

When joining The Sisterhood you’ll have an opportunity to be matched up with a Balanced Life sister. This is not required, but available to those of you who like the idea of having an accountability partner and buddy to check in with each week.

I will provide you each with a short list of questions to send to each other each week as a framework for your check-in’s. From there you can continue to follow that structure or allow the relationship to develop more organically. It’s totally up to you! 🙂

6. I don’t have a lot of time, will this be a huge daily commitment?

If you know me, you know I’m all about providing you with the most bang for your buck. I don’t have a lot of time either so I understand the desire to want effective workouts without spending hours on the mat.

Most day’s your workout assignment will be 10-15 minutes. That’s it! BUT remember, our goal is consistency. By keeping workouts short, you’re much more likely to stick with the program. I’ve learned this through years of experience and coaching hundreds of women.

Some days will have longer workouts (30-40 minutes). You can do those on the days you have more time and energy.

The goal is to embrace the truth that little bits each day is far more effective than trying to exercise for an hour every day only to give up after a few weeks of trying to keep up with that kind of routine.

7. What will the ratio of Barre to Pilates be? I’ll be honest, I like Pilates better. 🙂

The workouts will be 75% Pilates and 25% barre. Pilates is my first love, barre is just a fun complement and a great way to continue challenging your body in new ways. It’s also a great way to get cardio!

8. Does this mean your blog and newsletter will be changing? What about the free challenges?

NO! The Balanced Life will carry on business as usual.

This service is in addition to my regular blog posts, regular newsletters and free challenges throughout the year. This is for those who need an extra nudge to stay on track and stay on course between challenges. In fact, those who are in The Sisterhood will be the first to know about all new programs and will also receive discounts and special offers. 🙂

9. What else should I know?

I have so many fun ideas floating around in my head for The Sisterhood. And the sky’s the limit!

I imagine it will continue to develop and take shape over the next few months and I will welcome your feedback to make it the best online community I possibly can.

I have dreams of local meet ups, guest instructors, prenatal resources, postpartum resources, sport-specific workouts, cooking classes, and so much more!

I encourage you to get in early so that you can be a part of the story from day one. There’s something special about that. I can’t wait to get started. 🙂

I’ve been a dedicated reader for a long time, but have never done pilates before. Is the Sisterhood good for beginners?

  2. Robin Long 4 years ago

Yes! It’s definitely suitable for beginners. In fact we’ll be kicking things off next week with my Pilates For Beginners series. 🙂

Is it to late to join?

  4. Melinda 4 years ago

What type of equipment (if any) is required for Pilates and Barre classes? Is the $9.00 required for the “Clean Eating” program? How do we view/access the program? Sorry so many questions. Thanks!

      Hi Melinda!
Great questions. No equipment required. If the workout includes barre you can easily use a chair or countertop at home. The Sisterhood is a monthly subscription service. So you sign up and pay $9 per month. Every month you get all that is included on The Sisterhood “join now” page. Each month has a unique “Monthly Mission”. August’s mission is “clean eating” which means I’ll send out resources and together, as a community we’ll participate in a 7 day “clean eating challenge” (only if you’re interested of course). It’s not strict or crazy – we’re just coming together to focus on eating REAL food for 7 days and see how we feel. Knowing others are doing it too can be huge motivator and encouragement. At the beginning of every month I send out all of your new goodies (workout, calendar, recipes, mission, etc). The emails include links to view all of the resources on the blog. Videos are viewed either through YouTube or Vimeo. Hope this helps! Don’t hesitate to ask more! (oh, and if you sign up for the $9 per month option you can cancel anytime). xoxo

Am I too late for the August mission? The Clean Eating?

    • Robin Long 4 years ago

Not at all Melinda! Feel free to join us! The official challenge just kicked off this week but others are doing it later in the month too. We’d love to have you! xoxo

I’m thinking about joining but I’m pregnant (11 weeks). Are the workouts prenatal friendly or easy to adapt for pregnancy?

  7. Julie 2 years ago

I’m loving doing your 21 day challenge and am seriously considering joining the Sisterhood, but miss having a class to attend for the reason you aren’t there to say if I’m doing something correctly, esp in the beginning. Your videos are great, but how do we get over that hurdle?

    • Sarah Stoll 2 years ago

      Hi Julie!
We are so excited that you are considering the Sisterhood! Robin offers modifications within her videos to help you with form. When you join the Sisterhood, you gain access to the private Facebook Page and Sisterhood Activity Site. Sometimes when someone is struggling with a particular move they take a photo or record themselves and ask for feedback in these safe spaces! Our members really enjoy the community that comes with membership! I hope this helps! We would love to have you join us! 🙂
