Our thoughts affect everything we do, say, feel, think and believe.
Our thoughts construct our reality, shape our view of the world and determine the way we feel about life as a whole. Yet we rarely take the time to recognize what’s going on in our heads.
The most important step I took in breaking free of the cycle of general unhappiness with my body was becoming aware of my inner-dialogue.
Pilates is mind-body exercise. As you know by now, I firmly believe that you cannot separate the body from the mind.
In fact, I believe that changing the mind is the first step in changing the body.
It’s amazing how quickly negative thoughts can creep into our head . Within seconds we can believe things about ourselves that we would never say out loud. Sometimes all it takes is one magazine article, one bad experience in a dressing room, or one careless comment by a peer, and before you know it we’re down and feeling bad/guilty/shameful.
The good news is that we have the power to change this process. And it’s imperative that we do. When we don’t take time to sort through our thoughts they become our truths.
Today, I encourage you (and of course myself) to create 3 positive affirmations to repeat on a daily basis.
Say them to yourself while getting dressed, looking in the mirror, driving to work or going to sleep. It may feel cheesy at first, but repeating affirmations is a proven way to improve your confidence and self-acceptance. And despite what you may think, it’s confidence and acceptance (not guilt and shame) that empowers us to make lasting changes and reach our goals.
