Those of you who have been a part of this community for a while, whether it be through my online programs or regular reading, know that I continually encourage letting go of guilt when it comes to health and fitness.
Obsessing over calories and missed workouts is no way to live.
“Grace over guilt” has become our mantra of sorts; a tag-line that helps us to remember that using guilt as a catalyst for change rarely works.
The Balanced Life is about seeking balance and acknowledging that balance looks different to everyone and in every season of life.
Balance is not about giving equal weight to all things but rather striving to align choices and actions with values and goals.
This space on the internet is about choosing life. A vibrant life. One that is intentional, active, healthy and FULL.
This space is about grace and gentleness, not guilt.
It’s about ignoring the same old lies that the media feeds us about losing weight, being a size 2 and looking bikini-ready all year round.
Instead, we choose to love our bodies and live in freedom, while learning what it means to truly care for our health.
We say yes to cake when the cake is worth it. We say no to junk, not because we HAVE to but because we know that our bodies deserve better and we are our best when we are well nourished.
Here on The Balanced Life we exercise for the way it makes us feel, not for a number on the scale.
We move our bodies so that we can enjoy the outdoors, play with our children, wear our clothes confidently and age comfortably.
And after all that, we again come back to grace.
Because we need it every day. Because we will mess up, we will go off course, we will be too hard on ourselves…but we will not stop seeking a life that is healthy, balanced, honest and FULL.
We are beauties. Blemishes and all. We are beauties because we choose to appreciate our assets and embrace our weaknesses.
We are beauties because we say NO to the lies and YES to the truth.
We choose grace over guilt and start fresh every morning.
I don’t know about you, but I have to remind myself of this daily.
Isn’t it beautiful?

I already have this hanging in my home and every time I see it, I am reminded of the way I want to live.
“Grace over guilt” is exactly what I want my home to be about. A safe place. A place where it’s okay to mess up, a place to learn and a place that’s full of second-chances. For me, and my family.
